Collection: Climate Change
Climate change…
I want you to forget your politics for a moment, and follow my recent footsteps along the edge of the Vatnajokull glacier in Iceland. I was recently blessed with the opportunity to travel there during the summer, and it is simply an amazing country. The striking landscape is something that is impossible to describe (look for a new collection on Iceland soon!).
As I walked along the glacier, hundreds of feet above the completely flat land below, I could just see the car park in the distance. As it took us more than 30 minutes to hike to our location on the glacier, I estimated the car park was approximately 1.5-2 kilometers from where I stood on the glacier. Our guide asked our small group our thoughts on global warming - receiving various replies. He then mentioned that in 2014 the car park was covered by the very glacier we were standing on.
Regardless of our thoughts on the cause of global warming - there is no denying that this glacier I was standing on was melting. It was disappearing. While scientists may tell me that it’s moved back and forth over the centuries - I couldn’t help but look around at the blue ice and wonder how much of this would be left for my children and grand-children to see.
This collection on climate change was actually mostly completed before my trip to Iceland. It is based on events that I feel have been Mother Nature’s way of telling us she’s in charge.
